7th CONGRESS OF THE IFSS and 35th  ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON SHOCK

June 9 – 13, 2012 – Miami Beach, Florida

The 7TH  Congress of The International Federation of Shock Societies and the 35TH  Annual Conference on Shock will be held June 9 – 13, 2012 at the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa.  This conference offers an opportunity to present original data in poster and oral presentation sessions. The Program Committee will designate the placement after considering all abstracts for topic, grouping, etc. The number of abstracts to be included in this year's program will be limited. Abstracts will be critically evaluated and their selection will be based on the data content and the originality of the work. It is mandatory that in each instance where studies pertaining to human subjects were carried out, appropriate informed consent and sanction of the local Human Research Committee was obtained. Only original unpublished research should be submitted. The same material cannot be presented in identical form elsewhere. Please note that no name may appear as first author on more than one abstract. If an author's name appears on more than one abstract, it must be identical on each abstract.  An asterisk should be placed after the names of Shock Society members.

A fee of $30 (payable by credit card Visa/MasterCard only) will be required for each submitted abstract. Failure to do so will disqualify abstract consideration by the program committee.

ACCEPTANCE - All abstracts will be reviewed by the International Program Committee, James Lederer, M.D., Chair. Authors will receive notification of acceptance and type of  presentation (poster or oral) as soon as the program has been organized.

PUBLICATION - All abstracts accepted for presentation will be printed in the Journal, SHOCK. In addition, manuscripts may be submitted to the Editor of SHOCK for consideration, following editorial review, for publication in SHOCK. Please submit articles based on original work not previously published and prepare manuscripts according to the instructions published in SHOCK.

AWARDS - ELIGIBILITY: - Pre-doctoral Students: M.D., PhD., D.V.M., D.O., D.D.S., Post-doctoral Trainees with no more than 2 years postdoctoral research training - FIELD: - Basic, applied, and clinical research in the area of shock, sepsis, hemorrhage, endotoxin, burn, trauma, and critical illness

NEW INVESTIGATOR AWARDS: - Five finalists will be selected by the Awards Committee, Eileen Bulger M.D.., Chair.  Finalists will present their work in a ten-minute presentation followed by a five minute discussion on Sunday, June 10.

 Important Note: In order to be considered for the New Investigator Award, applicants must submit a manuscript resulting from their work to SHOCK. The manuscript must be submitted to the journal no later than 2 weeks prior to the annual meeting, accompanied by a cover letter addressed to Dr. Chaudry that indicates the work is original, has not been submitted to another journal, and is from a New Investigator Award nominee. To assist in determining the recipient of the New Investigator Award, the 5 finalists will also submit a complete manuscript of their work to the Chair of the Awards Committee no later than 1 week prior to the competition. The cover letter should include the manuscript number from the SHOCK submission. 

Each of the five finalists will be recognized with a plaque, a cash award (first place $600, four other finalists $350) and a travel grant of $1000. Submitted manuscripts will undergo an expedited review by the Editor of SHOCK and upon their acceptance will be highlighted in a future issue of the journal.

TRAVEL GRANTS:

 A total of 5 travel grants of up to $1,200 for travel and lodging expenses will be provided by the IFSS to investigators based on scientific merit and financial need.   Individuals from underdeveloped countries are encouraged to apply for these travel awards.  A total of 40 travel grants of up to $1000 for travel and lodging expenses will also be provided by the US Shock Society to additional investigators based on scientific merit and financial need.  Selected applicants applying for these awards may also be asked to give a 3-4 minute oral presentation to an audience of their awardee/student peers in the “Oral presentations by and for New Investigators” on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

The appropriate box on your electronically submitted abstract must be marked for consideration in the New Investigators Competition. A copy of your electronically transmitted abstract must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae and a brief letter from the advisor guaranteeing the participant's eligibility, willingness to publish the work in SHOCK, senior role in the project, and that no part of the work will be presented at a national or international meeting prior to the Shock Society Meeting. Applicants for travel grant awards must also mark appropriate box on abstract form and include a statement of need for travel assistance. Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will not be considered for awards.
