 Introducing Our Keynote Speaker

Mervyn Singer is Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at University College London, UK, and Director of the Bloomsbury Institute of Intensive Care Medicine. His research interests stretch from basic mechanisms through translational to clinical studies, with a focus on sepsis, multi-organ failure, tissue oxygenation, and novel diagnostics and monitoring technologies. Funding comes from the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council, and National Institute for Health and Care Research, among others. He developed the CardioQ esophageal Doppler monitor, now used in more than 30 countries, and, in conjunction with Mercedes F1, the UCL Ventura CPAP used in 25 countries during COVID. He has published extensively in leading journals and has authored and edited major critical care textbooks. He co-chaired the Sepsis-3 definitions task force, was a co-lead on the recently updated SOFA-2 score, the founding editor of Intensive Care Medicine Experimental (ICMx), and Chair of the International Sepsis Forum. In 2024, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to intensive care.
