Upcoming NIH MOSAIC Program Webinar

Dear Shock Society members,

As many of you know, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) supports a broad portfolio of shock, trauma, and critical illness focused research. Indeed, the research programs of many Shock Society members are funded by the NIGMS. Below is information regarding an upcoming webinar about the NIGMS, Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program.

This program supports the transition of promising postdoctoral fellows toward an independent research career. Please share this information with colleagues (particularly eligible postdoctoral fellows) and consider tuning in September 7th 2021 (2pm ET) to learn more about this NIGMS program.

The MOSAIC program is designed to facilitate the transition of promising postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds into independent, research-intensive faculty careers in institutions. The program has two components: a postdoctoral career transition award to promote diversity (K99/R00), and a cohort-based mentoring and career development program that supports the scholars (UE5). The MOSAIC K99/R00 program supports early career scientists with demonstrated and compelling commitments and contributions to enhancing diversity in the biomedical sciences. MOSAIC scholars come from diverse scientific backgrounds and 75% are from racial/ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. NIH accepts applications for the MOSAIC K99/R00 award three times per year and the next application receipt date is October 27, 2021. Please note, the MOSAIC K99/R00 award is limited to US citizens and permanent residents.

In addition to the postdoctoral transition award, MOSAIC scholars become members of scientific cohorts and participate in mentoring, networking, and professional development activities coordinated by MOSAIC UE5 awardees, currently The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), or The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). NIH will accept additional applications for the MOSAIC UE5 program that align with areas of programmatic need

  • Neuroscience
  • Microbiology and immunology
  • Clinical and translational physiology and pathophysiology of multiple human organ systems

The next due date for MOSAIC UE5 applications is November 18, 2021.
